An Inclusive Litany
5/18/92
Two former Oregon prison inmates filed a class action lawsuit against
the state for segregating inmates by race, a practice that corrections
officials say alleviates racial tensions. The case was settled out of
court for $375,000, and will be distributed to more than 630 black
inmates who were in the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution and
the Oregon State Correctional Institution between 1984 and 1991.
