An Inclusive Litany

In the wake of the American Bar Association's
long record of taking partisan positions on political questions such
as abortion (for), the death penalty (against), needle-exchange
programs (for), welfare reform (against), gay adoption (for), and the
independent counsel law (for, until the Clinton administration, then
against), President Bush ended the quasi-official role in vetting
potential judicial appointments the group enjoyed for nearly 50 years.
