An Inclusive Litany
6/29/92
Dr. Geraldine Richter was accused of drunk driving after being pulled
over by Virginia state police for driving erratically on November 22,
1990. She blamed her driving and a subsequent attack on the
trooper—she tried to kick him in the groin—on PMS, saying her
hormones were out of whack. A judge dismissed the charges—even
though a breath test showed Richter had a blood alcohol level of .13%,
well over the legal limit. The records show that after being
handcuffed she shouted, "You son of a [expletive]; you [expletive]
can't do this to me; I'm a doctor. I hope you [expletive] get shot and
come into my hospital so I can refuse to treat you, or if any other
trooper gets shot, I will also refuse to treat them." Richter also
kicked the Breathalyzer.
