An Inclusive Litany
10/4/02
In addition to $850,000 for economic damages and pain and suffering, a
Los Angeles Jury ordered Philip Morris
to pay $28 billion in punitive damages to Betty Bullock, a 64-year-old
lung cancer victim, for failure to warn her of the risks of smoking.
(That's "Billion" with a "B.") Ms. Bullock had been warned by
doctors to stop smoking for forty years and repeatedly urged to quit
by family members.
