In New Jersey, a state-sponsored task force charged with finding ways
to eliminate sexist bias in the teaching of college-level science
discovered that what has been long accepted as the scientific method
is itself sexually biased. "[M]ind was male," the group concluded.
"Nature was female, and knowledge was created as an act of
aggression—a passive nature had to be interrogated, unclothed,
penetrated, and compelled by man to reveal her secrets."
