An Inclusive Litany

In Great Britain, the words of Edward Elgar's rousing anthem, "Land of Hope and Glory," to be performed at the annual Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, have been rewritten in response to criticism from teacher's union members that in a time of war, the traditional version is too jingoistic. The traditional version reads:
Land of Hope and Glory,
Mother of the Free,
How shall we extol thee,
Who are born of thee?
Wider and still wider
Shall thy bounds be set;
God who made thee mighty,
Make thee mightier yet!
The revised version reads:
Music and our voices
Unite us all as one,
Let our sound be mighty,
Sung by everyone.
Deeper still and deeper
Shall our bounds be set,
Bring our world together,
Make us closer yet.
