An Inclusive Litany

Responding to criticism over the use of Canadian government funds
to produce a pornographic movie, a "feminist sex fantasy" titled
"Bubbles Galore," the Montréal Gazette
editorialized: "The bitter debate over whether pornography is an
expression of free speech or an incitement to violence against women
rarely involves the actors. The star of Bubbles, Nina Hartley, a
veteran of more than 450 XXX-rated films, refutes the patronizing
notion that she is a victim of exploitation or coercion." On the
contrary, "[t]he female stars in porn movies are in control of their
sexuality. They are not punished for having sex, unlike the female
characters in the more mainstream porn flicks such as The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre."
