Landlords in Provo, Utah, who rent apartments to Brigham Young University
students are discriminating against non-Mormons in violation of the
federal Fair Housing Act, ACLU lawyers charged in a lawsuit filed in
Salt Lake City's U.S. District Court. By conforming with BYU's
off-campus housing policy, which strictly segregates male and female
tenants, the landlords are also discriminating on the basis of gender
and family status, the complaint charged.
