John Bothe, the announcer at New Jersey's Meadowlands Racetrack, says
compulsive gambling nearly destroyed his life. So when the track's
management asked Bothe to start announcing the odds of races over
in-house TVs set up for patrons, he refused, afraid that even talking
about odds could rekindle his gambling problem. The track then cut his
pay. Bothe then sued his employers, claiming that his gambling
addiction is a disability that they have to accommodate by restoring
his previous pay without requiring him to announce the odds.
