An Inclusive Litany
7/12/95
An exhibit at the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum
in Washington, D.C., came under criticism from World War II veterans
and military historians for its treatment of the 1945 atomic bomb
attack on Japan. The exhibit, critics said, lacked context and
depicted the use of atomic weapons and other American actions during
the war in an overly harsh light while glossing over the many
atrocities committed by Japanese troops. A subsequent story reported
on the controversy surrounding the exhibit of the airplane that
dropped the first bomb over Hiroshima. Illinois'
Crystal Lake Northwest Herald
carried the story under the headline:
"Atomic Bombers Criticize Enola Homosexual Exhibit."
