An Inclusive Litany

Columnist Florence King relates a strange complaint made against the
makers of a televised laxative advertisement. The commercial features
a full roll of unused toilet paper, along with a sign reading
"Day 1 ... Day 2 ... Day 3 ... Day 4 ..." After the laxative is
shown and extolled, the roll is shown unrolling at top speed, proof
that the laxative works. Feminists complained that the ad addressed
constipated men—thus implying that constipated women were not only
unimportant, but invisible.
