When Klaus Matthiesen, environment minister of the German state of
North Rhine Westphalia, condemned daily showers as a threat to the
environment because they use water and heat unnecessarily, special
interest groups reacted swiftly. "Not taking a shower every day in
the summer would be crazy," said Hans Joachim Keller, president of
the German Public Health Movement. Achim Tilmes of the German Bath
Society added: "Some people even need to shower twice a day."
